Benefits of Psychological Testing
Quality of Life
Psychological test results can improve your quality of life. They can help you develop new coping strategies, navigate challenges, and make the most of your strengths. You’ll be able to design a toolbox to use to make meaningful changes, reduce negative patterns, and take more control of your future. Our reports focus on potential and positive change, and your assessment is used to clarify your possible pathways.
Accommodations
Psych testing can help you get accommodations at work or at school that ensure that you will reach your potential and thrive. For students, educational accommodations can include interventions that help them overcome learning disabilities, the provision of extra time on exams, the ability to take them in small groups settings, and individualized plans for certain academic tasks. For employees, work accommodations can include allowing you to work from home, more flexible deadlines, alternative workspaces, and having a mentor.
Treatment Planning
A psychological test battery can help you design a plan, whether you are looking for therapy or self-help strategies. You can learn what the perfect approach might be for your challenges, such as cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), psychodynamic, or existential therapy. It can point to whether other planning would be helpful, such as lifestyle changes, physical health pursuits, and social interventions. It can guide self-help strategies as well.
Decision-Making
Psychological testing can be an important part in major life decisions, whether compatibility testing when you want to make the most of a relationship, career path when you are just starting out or contemplating a change, or any time you are facing a possible life transition. Psych testing can provide important insights that turbo charge your pro and con list!
Types of Psychological Testing
Five categories of psych testing can be powerful and effective. They can be combined as part of a comprehensive psychological evaluation.
Do you have a learning difference or ADHD? How can you learn to access your strengths and manage your challenges?
What is your personality type and style, and how can that knowledge help you be happier, more content, and more comfortable?
Where do your innate and inner strengths point you when it comes to a career that can make you happy, content, and successful?
Do you have a global or specific difference in how you learn and process information that affects you at work or school?
What is the nature and origin of any negative emotions you sometimes feel? How can you use that knowledge to prevent them?
Psychological Testing Specialty Areas
While many people look to a psychological assessment to generally help in the categories above, we do offer some specific specialty areas
Women with ADHD
Some girls and women find that they did not show the same outward-facing symptoms that boys and men did, so they were never diagnosed. Knowing whether you do have ADHD can help you formulate ways to truly show your underlying potential.
Life Transitions
Whether you are graduating from college, choosing a new career path, starting a family, or approaching retirement, psychological testing can help you make the most informed and insightful decisions. It can also help you chart a successful path.
Sports Performance
Athletes always strive to reach their true potential and sustain their top performance. An assessment can provide information that improves your chances. It can also help you develop even more passion for your sport and love of other aspects of life.
Mild Autism
Mild autism, which used to be called Asperger’s Disorder, is often overlooked because people with this diagnosis often do quite well in school and work. But they often feel misunderstood or confused about why they feel different from their peers.
Emotional IQ (eIQ)
While we often reference IQ as a score covering a person’s cognitive abilities, we often overlook the incredible meaningfulness of how much a person understands their own and others’ emotional reactions, needs, and hopes. The eIQ score quantifies that.
Compatibility
Do you wonder who might make the best life partner or what types of friendships might bring you the most joy? Compatibility psychological testing answers those questions and helps you understand how to make these relationships as special as possible.

About Our Psychological Testing Practice
We are a small group of psychologists who provide psychological testing services across the United States. Our practice does offers both virtual and in-person testing services. We are trained in all assessment types listed on our Main Page.
We carefully follow all the guidelines and suggestions the American Psychological Association sets forth for virtual psychological testing. We do provide in-person psych testing in Massachusetts, New Hampshire, New York, and Southern California. For the rest of our service area, online evaluations are available.
When you choose us for psych testing you always get one of our senior-level clinical psychologists. Each team member has at least ten years of experience providing psychological testing, and those doing virtual psych testing have been specifically trained in providing these services. We will refer you to the psychologist who best fits your unique presenting concerns.
There are some types of assessment we do not do, and in some cases, a virtual approach is not the most effective way to get the answers you need. In this case, we have an extended network of providers we can refer to for most inquiries. We may be able to combine our services with a local provider who can do the parts of your evaluation that have to be administered in-person.
The psychological testing report we will provide will describe our findings, give specific recommendations for addressing any challenges or barriers we found, and suggestions for maximizing your strengths and potential. It can also provide recommendations for accommodations and interventions specific to school or work. Finally, if you are in therapy or seeking therapy we can provide valuable information you can share with the therapist you’ll be working with.
While we do not take insurance, we can give you the information you need to possibly get reimbursed for some of our fees. You should call your insurance company to see what that reimbursement might be. We will provide you what is called a “superbill” which has all the information you need.
After your assessment we would be happy to refer you to a clinical psychologist or other provider if you’d like. We maintain a small network of preferred providers who understand how to use the results in designing an effective and well-informed treatment plan.
We look forward to meeting you and seeing whether psychological testing may be for you.
Our Service Area
Below in blue and black are the states in which we are licensed to provide psychological testing services. While many of our services can be effectively provided virtually, some cannot. We can discuss any advantages and drawbacks to virtual psych testing if you do not live close to one of our offices.
Services are available in all blue states above.
Final thoughts
What is a Psychological Test?
A psychological test is a standardized measure used to assess various aspects of cognition, choices, emotions, and behaviors. It might be used in various fields, such as clinical psychology, education, recruitment, and research.
Key Features of a Psychological Test
- Standardization: A psychological test must be administered and scored in a consistent, uniform manner to ensure validity and reliability.
- Validity: A psychological test must measure what it is intended to measure.
- Reliability: A psychological test produces consistent results over time.
- Objective: A psychological test should minimize personal biases from the administrator and ensure fair scoring.
Types of Psychological Testing
- Intelligence and cognitive: Measure general mental ability, such as IQ (e.g., the Wechsler Intelligence Scale).
- Personality testing: Assess personality traits, like the Myers-Briggs Type Indicator (MBTI) or Minnesota Multiphasic Personality Inventory (MMPI).
- Aptitude: Evaluate specific talents or abilities, such as academic or professional skills.
- Neuropsychological evaluation: Assess cognitive functions like memory, attention, and problem-solving, often used after brain injuries or neurological conditions.
- Projective Measures: Use ambiguous stimuli to reveal unconscious thoughts and feelings, such as the Rorschach Inkblot or the Thematic Apperception Test (TAT).
We use each psychological test to gain insights into your psychological state, usually in a combination called a psychological battery.
